Boom Reader – Supporting Your Child's Reading Journey

At St. Edward's, we use Boom Reader (formerly GoRead), a fantastic online tool designed to track and support your child’s reading progress. This platform makes it easy for both parents and teachers to monitor reading habits, celebrate achievements, and encourage a love for books.

What is Boom Reader?

Boom Reader is a digital reading log where your child can record the books they are reading at school and at home. It’s a user-friendly platform that allows both you and the school to keep track of your child’s reading activities. Whether it’s a book they’re reading for school or one they’ve picked up for fun, everything can be recorded in one place.

How Does Boom Reader Benefit Your Child?

  • Motivation and Encouragement: Boom Reader celebrates reading milestones by awarding virtual badges and providing positive feedback, keeping children motivated to read more.
  • Tracking Progress: You can easily see how often your child is reading, the types of books they enjoy, and how they are progressing over time.
  • Teacher Feedback: Teachers can provide feedback on your child’s reading within the app, offering tailored suggestions and support to help them grow as a reader.

How to Use Boom Reader as a Parent

Getting started with Boom Reader is simple:

  1. Login Details: You will receive login details for your child’s Boom Reader account from the school. Once logged in, you can view your child’s reading log.
  2. Record Reading: After reading a book with your child or seeing them read independently, you or your child can log the reading session. You can enter details such as the book title, how much they’ve read, and any comments they have about the story.
  3. Check Feedback: Teachers will regularly check the reading logs and leave feedback or suggestions, which you can view on the app.

How to Support Your Child with Boom Reader

  • Consistency: Encourage your child to log every reading session, whether it’s a schoolbook, a bedtime story, or something they’ve read on their own.
  • Discussion: Use Boom Reader as an opportunity to talk about the books your child is reading. Discuss their favourite parts, characters, or what they’ve learned.
  • Praise and Encouragement: Celebrate your child’s achievements, big or small, and encourage them to set new reading goals.
